Emilio de la Morena

We are thrilled to introduce our new multi-disciplinary exhibition, featuring the Spanish roots and London experiences of Emilio de la Morena.

Drawing on a rich archive of influence and encounters from a two-decade career as a fashion deisgner, de la Morena fully immerses himself in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, and installation, with a focus on creating heavily textured surfaces, merging painting with sculptural forms. This unique approach is enhanced by his development of custom materials and the incorporation of found objects.

De la Morena's artistic practice is deeply introspective and versatile, with daily drawing sessions, ceramic building, poetry writing and Polaroid photography all amplifying his creative expression. Crafting totems and objects from curated lost and found pieces, de la Morena transforms them into multi-dimensional artworks.

Set against the backdrop of Loop Generation's architecturally Art Deco inspired HQ, the central themes of the archaeology of intimacy, justice, wounds and scars, and the landscapes of dreams and existence are thoughtfully understood and articulated.

Throughout this period, de la Morena has sought to understand and articulate his identity, positioning his work within the contemporary art landscape as a Latin queer artist, whilst intersecting with broader cultural, identity, and process-related themes.

At this juncture in his career, de la Morena is eager to engage in collaborative projects, seeking to expand his horizons, whilst utilising his experience as the director and head of the creative team for his own fashion brand. Obtaining a strong appreciation for cooperative and inclusive frameworks of creation and idea-sharing, de la Morena aims to foster dialogues and build lasting relationships within the art community and to explore techniques and tools from various disciplines to innovate new methods.

The exhibition at Loop Generation, located at 171-175 Draycott Avenue, SW3 3AJ, is open until the 8th September 2024.
